[Apple] Why Siri Will Never Officially Appear on the iPhone 4

Since the arrival of the iPhone 4S, users of the humble iPhone 4 have been hoping for a chance to get Siri. While they can unofficially, they never will from Apple.

The iPhone 4S uses Apple's A5 processor.

Which you know is more powerful than the A4 built into the iPhone 4—but it also has some weighty audio processing hardware baked into it. Specifically, the A5 is home to Audience's "EarSmart" technology, which uses a digital signal processor to remove background noise and secondary voices so phone calls sound better.

If you've never heard of Audience, don't sweat it: It's a start-up, but it powers Apple's noise-reduction circuity. Audience did, however, recently file its IPO. As part of that, the com...

[Android] Cheat at Almost Any Game Using GameCIH

There comes a time in every gamer’s experience with a game where they just want to bend the rules and break the game. Not literally, but enter some fun cheat codes and run around with infinite wealth and power to do whatever they want to do.

For Android, there isn’t many options in this area. While it would be nice to have a Game Shark style application, there are those who are working on something similar. XDA Senior Member b02 has posted about a free application that will help Android users cheat their way through almost any game.

The app, called GameCIH, is a gaming cheat/hack/crack engine that allows users to alter their in-game stats in most games. The process isn’t very hard as it only really requires pressing a few buttons and paying attention. The app itself requires root access and at least one hard key, such as volume up or down, to ...

[Android] Transparent Screen Lets You See Where You're Walking While Using Your Phone, Enables Your Internet Addiction

It never fails. You're walking along, reading your emails, not looking where you're going, and then boom! You trip over the cat and land nose-first into his empty food bowl. Transparent Screen aims to prevent this type of misstep by letting you see through your camera while you're walking. Unfortunately, it can't fix your cat's passive aggressive behavior, but we're sure an app like that is in the works.

We've seen apps like this before, usually designed for texting and walking only. This app's approach, however, is to make your entire Android experience translucent. As you can see in the screenshots above, no matter where you are in the OS, you'll be able to see through your rear-facing camera. You're able to adjust the transparency to your preferred visibility, though during our...

[World] Doctors use 3D printing to rebuild a woman's jaw

A team of researchers from Belgium and the Netherlands has replaced a patient's lower jaw with a 3D printed model. After an 83-year old woman was diagnosed with progressive osteomyelitis, an infection affecting almost her entire mandible, and doctors surmised that removal of the infected area was the only way forward. Removal would have left her with a non-functional jaw, which would require highly complex microsurgical reconstruction via transplantation of bone and soft tissues.

Due to the patient's age, this wasn't an ideal solution, so the team collaborated with Xilloc, a company specializing in tailor-made implants, and LayerWise, a metal additive manufacturer, to create a 3D printed prosthetic jaw. The team used traditional computer-aided design (CAD) software to model the implant, but when it came to constructing it, they needed to think outside the box.

Consumer-facing 3D printers commonly use materials such as plastic or ...
